Senior Design Projects Allow Engineering Students to Work Directly with Industry Sponsors

The senior design program in the College of Science & Engineering’s Department of Engineering is a year-long opportunity for senior engineering majors to work directly with industry sponsors to produce a solution to a relevant issue. The project begins in the fall of students’ senior year, and project completion is expected the following spring.

TCU Engineering Wind Tunnel Fun Facts

Did you know that there is a wind tunnel in the basement of Tucker Technology Center on TCU campus? Its primary use at TCU is for educational lab instruction, extensively in a fourth-year mechanical engineering laboratory course, ENGR 40871. It has also supported a number of undergraduate research and honors projects over the years.

Examining Power Quality on TCU Campus

Last year a collaborative effort was launched by TCU’s Department of Engineering, the TCU Electrical Department and the multi-disciplinary engineering firm of Baird, Hampton & Brown in Fort Worth to assess the power quality in TCU buildings. Morgan Kiani, associate professor of electrical engineering at TCU, says, “Specifically our overall objective is to assess the consumption of reactive power. By accurate compensation of reactive power (i.e. improving power factor), the cost of electricity will improve, and we will only pay for the active power.”

Tesla Crash Test Engineer Alumnus Sean Haight's Post-Graduation Journey

Sean Haight ’09 graduated from TCU with a degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to earn his master’s in transportation safety engineering from George Washington University, and then his doctorate in computational science from George Mason University. As the Senior Staff Passive Safety Test Engineer at Tesla, he is in charge of crash and safety testing.
