Matt McLennan has been named the new Houston Livestock and Rodeo Professor in Ranch Management at Texas Christian University. McLennan graduated from TCU’s Ranch Management program in 1992. After graduating, he worked in stocker cattle production and cow calf production in eastern New Mexico and in Comanche, Texas. McLennan managed the Beaumont Ranch south of Fort Worth for four years. This led him to the cattle feeding and stocker operations of the Panhandle area of Texas. While working in area-feeding operations, he attained his Master’s degree from Tarleton. 

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Professorship in Ranch Management was established in the TCU Ranch Management Program in 1990 by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund. Since the Houston Livestock and Rodeo™ began in 1932, more than $550 million has been committed to the youth of Texas and education.

McLennan joined the Ranch Management faculty in January of 2022 and has greatly contributed to preparing students to manage a broad range of global resources on an ecologically and economically sound basis while conserving and improving resources. In his new role in Ranch Management, McLennan will continue to teach courses in his area of specialization and carry on his work as an exemplary scholar.

“I am humbled but at the same time so honored to have the support of a time-honored Texas institution like the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in the endeavor of educating and passing experiences to future beef producers on feeding our world and caring for the land in a sustainable and economically viable fashion,” McLennan says.
